Diana Wynne Jones' novel is great—very humorous and intriguing. I had heard about the Miyazaki film first, of course, and decided I had better read the book before the movie. I never thought I could be disappointed by the genius that is Miyasaki! The film wasn't bad—It's Miyazaki; how could it be bad?—but the plot changes and the different cultural flavor really threw me! Jones' novel is so very British, and Miyazaki's film is so very Japanese! I wish I had watched the anime first; then I wouldn't have been all messed up with my expectations. Maybe I'll watch it again and see if it grows on me.
Anyone else out there have opinions on either book or movie?

1. Really liked the movie, haven't read the book. |

It's classic Miyazaki. I'll watch pretty much anything he does. I guess I'd have to read the book to see if I had a similar disconnect between the movie and the novel.
