anyone else reading Charlene Harris' Sooke Stackhouse books

I think I've read all of them and I have to say, that I enjoy them

1. I read the first three or four.

I enjoy them when I can get my hands on them. I'm not that big a fan of the Bill character and thought she wrote her bad guys as much more interesting but I like to read them when I can.

I also highly recommend Kim Harrison's "Hollows" series about a witch bounty hunter named Rachel Morgan and her colleagues. Those are excellent, both funny, frightening and at times sexy, but not in a constant Laurel K. Hamilton way.

Finally, Jim Butcher's Dresden Files about detective Harry Dresden as the only wizard in the Chicago Yellow Pages are also wonderful. The first two books started a bit slow but finished very strong and from the third book on they run like freight trains almost from start to finish. My wife and I are both addicted to them. I gave copies to my mom and she finds them too intense to read at night.

Different but decent is the Zodiac series by Vicki Pettersson and I really enjoyed Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. But a new Hollows or Dresden release is a much awaited event at our house.

2. you've just listed most to the books I've bought in the past few months

I ordered the Dresden books from one of my book clubs (BOMC or something equally as expensive); I just finished the third Zodiac book-not that impressed but it's different

I'm getting ready to order the last Hollows book. I really like those.

I like Bill, even though if I was her, I'd stake him for being so damn whiny.

Eric, on the other hand, I'd let him feed from me for days!

3. Other books we really liked

Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. I'm particularly fond of the Tiffany Aching books. They are listed in the young readers section but they read wonderfully for adults as well. The first one, "Wee Free Men," finds nine year old Tiffany going to the Fairy World to bring back her little brother who was kidnapped by the Fairy Queen. She's armed with a frying pan and a book and assisted by the Nac Mac Feagles, kind of like Scottish, hard drinking smurfs. They are "fairy folk" and can get into and out of most anything, except for pubs, which they have a hard time leaving for some reason.

The second book, "A Hatful of Sky" has 11 year old Tiffany going away from home to apprentice as a young witch with adult witches. Unknown to her, she's being followed by an invisible creature intent on stealing her body. Since the creature has no body of it's own, the Feagles are unable to assist her and Tiffany has to face that ancient evil alone.

The third one (which is the wife's favorite) is called "Wintersmith" and now 13 year old Tiffany is invited to the ancient dance where the elemental Wintersmith annually meets the Spring maiden and heralds the arrival of warm weather. However, the drums are too inviting and without realizing it, Tiffany's feet start moving and she dances out into the circle where the Wintersmith spies her instead of the Spring maiden. Now, he's enamored of her, and Winter doesn't leave. In fact, all of the snowflakes look amazingly like Tiffany.

As for the Sookie books, I found I really liked Bubba, and Eric and most of the other characters other than Bill.

13. You might like Rachel Caine's work, too.

I really like the 'Weather Warden' series.

Also Yasmine Galenorn and Charles de Lint.

5. I love ALL of them. They just keep getting better, and even the first

is good. They are fun, imaginative, full of excitement, and they people feel more real in their emotions than most do in "regular fiction." You care about them and how they deal with their experiences and change through time. There's just enough humor - and it's the best kind of humor, never malicious or cold but often sly - to make it all go down very easily. This is one of my very favorite series and one of the few books I actually not only buy but pre-order. I re-read them and enjoy them each time.

I've read most, all out of order since there is a waiting list at the library.

I was looking for some good summer reads, and they were recommended by a friend who heard me bitching about having to hear about the really bad (imo, lol) Twilight books from my students all year, so she pointed me in that direction.

They are light reading, funny, and engaging; perfect for summer reading.

10. I will be soon.

I got my wife a nook for Christmas. She's already finished the new Dan Brown book on that, and is on the 7th book of the 1st 8 Sookie novels. As soon as she's done, I'll download the 8 pack to my iTouch.

We really enjoy the HBO series - my wife says they've sexed up the TV show compared to the books.

12. Somebody recommended them to me just last week.

I checked my library, and they have them all, but most of them are on loan, so I've put a reserve on "Dead Until Dark", the first one.

I always look forward to a new reading experience.
