how's everybody handling the holy days? my home is pulsating with teen spirit, the phone rings, video games, heavy kitchen traffic, and i am the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY for 7 more days. i blanket myself in my music and walk the beach twice a day; three former foster kids are spending the week, plus my four and their friends. i gave everyone their own copy of the constitution, and we discuss the bill of rights at dinners. im having fun, hope you all are too.

| 1. They've been blissfully solitary. |

So far, my oldest son and girlfriend came to eat, watch a concert on dvd, and share gifts xmas night. They were here for 3 hours. The rest of the time has been solitary, and I'm off work this week, too! I've ridden my horse/s nearly every day; sometimes alone, sometimes with a group. I went to a movie xmas day with a group. I went to see 2 movies alone; "Finding neverland" today since it was raining and flooding everywhere and I couldn't ride. I'm reading.
It's been great. I often think, "If only I never had to go back to work!" But you know what? I have these visions of being a total recluse that forgets how to use human speech if I'm not forced into some sort of contact with others on a regular basis.
Irony of the year: I got a horoscope chart "done" as a gift. It called me "outgoing." Interestingly, the rest of the 45 pages were right on target. I'm still looking behind the doors and under the cushions for the "outgoing" me, though. ;-)

on the cowlitz river at the base of mt st helens.one day i went out for supplies to a wee little logging town. this woman ran up to me "the president's been shot!!" i was sure id gone back in time, "kennedy?" "REAGAN" she responded i burst out laughing. then looked around. people were looking hard at me. i jumped back in my car and laughed uncontrollably for 50 miles till i got to the next place for supplies. the point of my silly story is that the mind is a terrible thing to waste. i was katie of the woods. i talked to cyotes and the moon. i could smell salamanders and gaze forever down river. i did not miss humans. later in life i hope to find a suitable cave.

| 3. I talk to myself, or I talk to the cat. |

I just have to remember to stop talking to myself when I actually do go out into the world of other humans. They look at me funny when I start one of my usual conversations with myself.
