was weird or something was wrong with me. honestly, reading the posts in this forum has helped made me feel better about my reclusiveness. i was getting worried that there is something wrong with me.

i really enjoy being holed up in my nest and not having to deal with the outside world too much. doing the shopping and errands is just about all i can handle with the people aspect. 2 yrs ago, i bought all my xmas gifts online so that i could avoid the holiday shopping trauma.

when i do go out, i love going by myself. i eat, shop, watch movies, and go to concerts (small ones) by myself when my husband is not around (work). i moved to tucson 5 yrs ago and have yet to really make a friend. just aquaintances. i feel bad about it but not enough to really DO something about it.

probably, because i have my family that have replaced my friends. and when people find out that i have but one friend, they think that it is weird. but i used to have tons of pseudo friends and they got exhausting. so i cleaned house, so to speak, and eliminated everyone that sucked energy from me. i came out of that spring cleaning with one person left standing. but she lives in another state. i have plenty of acquaintences now (neighbors) but they are different because we don't personal. very superficial. and i am very happy with that.

i remember going to the john edwards rally this past summer and although i enjoyed it, i was ready to go straight home and not stop anywhere for anything. i cannot even imagine partaking in something like mardi gras now.

It is a pleasant surprise for lots of us to find others with very similar sensibilities and experiences!

Having a dog I love to walk with helps me get my portion of socializing in my daily life - lots of dog-lovers in the parks to chat to about our companion pets. :D

Now that my children are almost out of the house I have mixed feelings about it - love the long stretches of alone time, but miss the hub-bub in between of kids coming in....:shrug:

I also am happy with a few close girlfriends and my family, with a few less intimate friends for get-to-gethers and fun dinners.

When I was young I thought I wanted to live in the wilderness, or at least not in one of the most crowded areas on earth (Holland)! - but I moved into a house that gives a feeling of an oasis in the city, and learned how to maneuver the crowds and times outside, and now am very happy to live here!

i get to talk to people at the dog park too and it is nice. it is short, sweet and not complicated. i do miss not having a friend live nearby where we can go have lunch every now and then, though.

btw, i know exactly what you mean about maneuvering the crowds and times. in the past, i've been known to do my grocery shopping at night. and i never go to costco on the weekends. it is just madness.

I just discovered this group, but I sure like this thread.

You're damn right there are more of us than you think!

I work in one of the world's largest aerospace companies. Quite a few of my cow-irkers ;-) are folks just like us, and some of us are pretty damn OLD! Loners of every sex, race, and creed! It's so beautiful!

The whole month of January I was working in Egypt, and everybody I worked with was a loner! (Except for a couple of suits who dropped in wanting to go out to Mass Dinners. But fortunately they didn't stay long.)

What a relief! I didn't have to make up excuses for not meeting them "in the bar after work." Or not meeting them for dinner. Or not doing a lot of phony socializing.

It was so great! We were all working long hours in primitive conditions, and when we got back to the hotel, we just wanted to go to our rooms and be left alone.

Well, I like wandering around by myself in foreign places, so I'd often go out adventuring.

The WORST time I had? On one of my excursions, a very annoying woman attached herself to me like a limpet. One of those American morons who expects everyone to speak perfect English, no matter where she is. Oh, and she expected all the Egyptians to accept American dollars.

Getting kidnapped by terrorists would have been a relief.
