Need suggestions and recommendations re termite control

It's time. We've lived here 6 years, didn't continue the control the previous owner had (thru no fault of our own -- the company kept getting mixed up), and it's time to do something in this very termite-prone state (Georgia).

But I want something environmentally friendly. I would prefer not to have automatic spraying (wouldn't that harm the many little skinks, toads and stuff that we love having around here?), and I'm very leery of that bait system -- why BRING them to you?? (We used traps for Japanese beetles a while back and creatad a monster, I think).

SO -- what say you? What do you use? Also something affordable and economical, please.

1. We HAD termites so it was a matter of eradication, not just prevention.

I believe we had both treatment and the bait system installed and it has worked great. At first, there was activity in several of the stations. Now we've gone months without activity. The fact is, the termites are there so we're drawing them away from the house and killing them off.

We paid about $2300 initially for two years of monthly service (3300 sqft two-story house,) then about $400 the second year and $285 this year for quarterly monitoring. I didn't realize until I looked it up that it went down -- I wonder why?
