Can someone give me advice on pellet stoves please? |
|
My mother has a fireplace insert that burns wood like a wood stove. She wants to switch it to a pellet stove. I have no clue on what to ask and look for re:cost, flue, etc.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

1. Hi Vick, I see you took my advice, IIRC I researched those about |
|
15 years ago so I don't remember much but I think they will be fine with an existing fire flue although they do burn hotter
This forum moves very slowly so it may take a day or two to get responses, good luck!

really worried, though she has gas well on her property, free. Think she figures all of us may end up at her house to keep from becoming peoplesicles this winter.
Scary to think what may happen in the cold areas of the country by Jan.!

3. the pellets are costly, but for a senior easier to handle and clean up |
|
after than dealing with firewood. and with the cost of heating oil/gas this winter the price of pellets is probably more appealing than 10-20 years ago. On the up side they are MUCH less polluting to the air than wood (which was their claim to fame in the 80's when air pollution in CA was so bad there were days you weren't allowed to burn regular wood)

4. The environmental aspect is great |
|
to know! Mom will like that part much. And thanks for the senior point also. I use a cane and have a hard time carrying wood for her, it would be nice if it was easier to stock and clean. And to know she can handle it when I can't get there, is a relief.
I was in Cal. in 1982, it bothered me to see the air. Is it better now with all the emission regs.?
Thanks for your help today AZ.:hi:
