One other question: The thimble... |
|
Upon which finger does one wear the stupid thing???
I'm mending unmentionables (and if anyone knows how to keep the dryer from eating the hooks, I'd be eternally grateful...) and a thimble would probably help, but I've never used one before.

1. It depends on which finger you use to push your needle through. |
|
That's the one you wear it on, no matter what you see in pictures.

3. Thank you both... here's what I learned. |
|
I hate the damn thing, and there's a reason I never used one before. I think I've been sewing for at least a quarter century (I seem to recall mom taught me to cross stitch the summer she was pregnant with one of my sisters) and mending for at least 20 years....
It just kept getting in my way, no matter which finger it was on. I normally push the needed with my index finger and thumb, but when I'd put it on my index finger, I'd be pushing with my middle finger and thumb. Move the thimble, I'd use any finger but the one with the thimble.
I give up. Apparently, my brain LIKES having callused fingers on my left hand.
It wasn't a total loss. My cat thinks it's a great substitute for a toy mouse or a live moth. (Yes, I'm awake at 2 in the morning and posting on DU because of said beastie... thimbles rocketing across hardwood floors are LOUD.)
