| I need toilet repair help |
|
A few weeks ago, my toilet stopped filling after a flush. It was spotty at first then it just stopped. I replaced the flush tower and it worked for a few days. Today after a flush, the toilet once again didn't fill. Any suggestions??

| 1. That sounds like there's something blocking the water coming in. |
|
Do you have tree roots that may have broken the pipe, or have you had a potential pipe freeze?
Is it the tank (the back) or the bowl that doesn't fill?

| 2. The water ran fine for a day or two. |

It is the tank that isn't filling. I disconnected the water to the tank and there is definitely water to the tank and the pressure seems to be fine. Freezing isn't an issue - we're having our coldest night of the year and it will be 48.

| 3. I'm thinking roots in the pipes.... |

Things like that can shift and let some water in, especially if your water table is high, then shift again when some condition changes. (Logic being one of those obnoxious things that always bites me in the butt...)
Else, you ended up with a defective tower, but that doesn't make any sense.

| 4. The problem is that the house is only 8 yrs old |

and the pipes run through the slab. My gut tells me it is the tower, but I really don't want to have to try to replace it again. Last time it took a hacksaw to cut out the old one. Hopefully the new one hasn't had time to settle so it will be easy to remove.

At least you confirmed that it isn't an obvious situation.
