| concrete floor refinishing |
|
Has anyone here have experience with or knowledge about concrete floors? We want to tear the carpet out of our front living room and the linoleum (not vinyl) out of the rest of the living areas and refinish the concrete. Can we do this ourselves? What kind of timeline are we looking at? Can it be done one room at a time or should it happen all at once?

| 1. The answer to your question lies mostly below your carpet |
|
Its all about the condition of the concrete.
It might be suitable to simply stain and seal it or just seal it.
It might need some mitigation of glue used to hold the linoleum down.
It might need some patching.
It might need an acid etch to get some stains out.
It might need a surface grinding to even it out.
It might need some flash patch to fill holes.
That's all I can think of right now.
Seriously, you need to know what the condition is before your question can be intelligently answered.

| 3. Gah, I suspected as much. |

I was hoping to have an inkling of what to expect before tearing out the carpet, but it looks like this will probably be a drawn-out endeavor.
Thanks for the info.

We wanted to have vinyl flooring put down. They had to grind the floors and then even out the low spots with patch. In a few words - it can be a major mess. Lots of dust and disruption. Even if they wall off the rooms for grinding, the dust gets into cabinets in other rooms.
I'm thrilled, however, that we no longer have carpeting. It was worth it. I just wouldn't advise doing the prep work myself.
