Linen closet organizing tip I learned this week from one of those

neat freak shows on a DIY station this week. We have limited space for storing linens in our home and it's always a battle to get stacks of different kinds of sheets and pillow cases on shelves. Well one of these enterprising people showed a way to fold sheet sets to reduce the amount of space they take up. First you fold your fitted sheet by half and then half again. Then you fold your flat sheet to the regular fold and place it on one half of the folded fitted sheet. Now fold the pillow cases that go with the set and place them on top of the flat sheet. Now finish folding the fitted sheet over the bundle and you have the entire set all bundled neatly. You can stack several of them on top of each other on a shelf in a smallish linen closet and not have to sacrifice other shelves for overflow.

I reorganized my linen closet using this technique this week and freed up 2 shelves for other types of storage.

I never had a dedicated linen closet in this house. But I did have a closet dedicated to household tools, light bulbs and such. I decided to empty it out and use it for linens, towels and then laundry soaps etc on the bottom. I didn't know where the heck I was going to put the tools I took out. But between pitching junk and finding other drawers and closet spaces, it all worked out.

With your technique, I'll free up even more space. Thanks for posting about this. Those of us who live in smallish houses are always looking for these great tips!

3. I tried it on a set of king-size sheets that I was folding today.

I didn't see how it would make a smaller stack than when I stack them normally but it did! Even if it didn't save space, I like how it keeps a set all together. Thanks! :)

My only concern is that I hang my sheets outside and fold them while bringing them down, so I may need to look up the process and see if I can adapt it. (I hate my dryer, and yes, it's not very old. I just don't see the point of paying the gas and electric bills for an appliance when the sun will do the same work in less time and for free.)

5. I have my own stacking process

I fold both sheets and one pillowcase and stack them inside the second pillow case. I fold that to made a flat bundle and everything is in one "envelope".

But now all of my sheet sets are mix and match, so I like to keep them all separate.

8. Another tip - for towels

Roll them like a spa does :-) Fold in half (or thirds if you have bath sheets), then roll them the length. I think it saves room and the closet looks much neater.

10. For cryin' out loud! We always strip the beds, then wash. Then it's fruit

basket turnover. When we have guests: hell-raisin' panic to figure out the twins, queens, etc. I have ended up writing in HUGE (HUGH!!11!!111!!) letters with sharpie markers TWIN, QUEEN etc on the hems of the sheets, so I don't have to search for the tattered tags. 11. i like this tip. i usually fold my flat sheet normally. bundle the fitted

sheet and put it on top. then add the pillow cases. (sometimes not if there is room beside them) and then roll the flat sheet. I have a tube that I can put on the self, the others by them and they take almost no space. they also look cute. :)
