Tile resurfacing/repair experiences? ("tile doctor') |
|
Aloha,
I need to do something with our tiled shower as it's not fit to wash cattle in at the moment. Not that I have any. I found a tile repair company here and was wondering if anybody had good or bad experiences with this kind of thing, and if so, in either case, what to be on the lookout for?
In other news, it was a memorable experience. He is a conservative guy who saw my bumbersticker, Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy photos hung in the house, and whispered to me that he thinks Bush blew up the towers. Surreal. But he will fix my shower. It will cost 700$(time and materials total) and take two days.
Retiling will cost 3000.
What say you, DUers?

1. Find out what he's going to do |

Does it mean replacing broken or missing tile and regrouting the whole thing? If that's it, $700 sounds like a good price to me. It's a labor intensive process to dig out all the old grout.

cover with 3 coats of this stuff that will make the uglies go a-way. But you can't use any abrasive cleaners on it down the road.

3. Tile should not need any surface coating |

Tile is fired ceramic and hard as can be. It may scrape, but it really doesn't dull.
Regrouting is actually something you can do yourself. If you're interested, say so and I'll give you some idea of how to do it.

and I know this is the DIY forum, but it is moldy and I have asthma, so am setting pride aside in this instance and seeking out a pro. I did check out doing the tile repair and regrouting and it was a couple thousand dollars that are busy as it is. It's great to have a forum of like minds to toss things out to, in case there were experiences in the group.
Hey guess what, my kids are outside in the garage converting a car to electric. So alohas for now.
