Does anyone know how to clean a limestone fireplace?

I have a beautiful fireplace in my family room. It is not made of cut stone, but rather different sized limestone rocks. The colors are various shades of orange, brown, and gray.

The hearth, which is plain gray limestone, was continued along the whole length of the room, which I wish hadn't been done, but it provides great seating when we have a group in to watch football.

I would like to clean it, but don't know how. Articles I have read say that muratic acid should not be used, because it may affect the color.

Can anyone recommend a product that will not etch or otherwise damage the stone?

2. TSP

Tri Sodium Phosphate added to water and a nylon bristle brush. After it's clean and dry, seal it with a good quality stone sealer so it will stay clean. You can get these things at Home Depot or Lowe's.

3. baking soda and water

You want a neutral PH balance so it won't discolor or otherwise damage the stone. When I'm cleaning something sensitive, I get distilled water so there's no mineral residue either. If that doesn't work, you might want to get a stone cleaner.
