2. A word of caution on Harbor Freight's electric tools |
|
I have several.
I have a mitre saw.
I have a hand planer.
I have (had) a recip saw (Sawzall). The recip failed after maybe 20 cuts. The blade jammed, I heard a grinding noise, and the gears were stripped. Done. Toast.
The mitre saw and planer were their top of the line. The mitre saw has made many, many, many cuts. All the framing and all the trim in an entire house I am remodeling. The plane has hardly been used. Just a few times to adjust some doors. But it works fine.
The recip saw was the cheapest they had.
My son had a cordless set he bought when he forget to bring his regular bag of cordless tools to a job site. The batteries were the weak link. They last about as long as a headache. He threw the whole set away after buying a second set of batteries and they died even faster. They charge but won't hold one.
I have a lot of their air tools. Some over 20 years old!!!. I keep 'em oiled and they work just fine. I have four of their nailers. I have a few automotive sanders. Air ratchets, air drills, an air file, impact wrenches, muffler chisels, etc.
I also have a fair amount of their mechanic's tools, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. The only issue I've encountered is cheap, thin chroming that results in some surface rust on a few pieces.
So the only issues I've had with them have been their cheap electric tools.

6. I tend to buy Harbor Freight tools when I use it only occasionally |
|
tools I use every day it isn't worth the aggravation to buy cheap tools. They don't last and break just when you need them most.
