Pigeons--what's a humane way to get them away from my house?

They are all over the 'hood, and seem to find my house very attractive. I want to deal with it before they can get into the attic, although it may be too late for that.

They've chased all the songbirds out of the yard (I DON'T feed any of the birds now) and I, and my cockatiel, would like them to come back.

It's still a minor problem, so I'm hoping for a low-cost, DIY solution, but I know that they increase fast.

Any good DIY, low cost ideas?

Sorry ... you asked a serious question and I gave a smartass answer. To be honest, I don't have a clue as to how to keep them gone.

There are some ways to keep them out of your attic, but I have no idea how to keep them away from your yard.

Hmmm...

If poo must be cleaned up, I'd much rather clean up cat poo than pigeon poo.

3. We were having a pigeon problem last fall,,,,

I did some internet(s) searches and found some recommendations,,,,

I remember one of the ways to discourage them was to string a thin wire over the roosting area,,,,, they don't like alot of noise,,,, they are creatures of habit & will return again & again,,,, if disturbed too often they will also remember not to come back,,,,,

one of the things I discovered is that they would come in to roost on our balcony at dusk ~ each evening I would go shoo them away,,,, we finally removed the bamboo shade that provided a perch,,,, our kittie (who has no idea how to hunt/stalk/pounce) does deter any daytime perching,,,, Here in Colorado, if they build a nest & lay eggs it is illegal to destroy/disrupt it, so it was important to me that they not get that far,,,,

anyway,,,, try some searches,,,, maybe you can find some ideas that will fit your situation. Good Luck with this!!

6. I live next to an abandoned house

that is full of pidgeons. I just go out and cull the population with my trusty pellet rifle on occasion.

There are too many loose cats in the neighborhoold to use any poison.

I used to pay a bounty for pigeon carcasses to the neighborhood teenagers, but that got expensive - and I didn't like them shooting them on top of the roof where if they missed the pellet would go over the roofline and end up who knows where.

I don't know if they'll work on pigeons, though. Pigeons aren't really smart and they may not be able to tell food from poison, and you may end up with dead pigeons all over the place.

I think I'd call the county extension office to find out what might encourage them to live elsewhere. They're dirty, nasty, diarrhetic birds, so I can well understand your desire to eliminate them.
