I have a geek-type question, but I'm not a geek.

I just got a new computer and noticed that, according to the user guide, you can hook TVs and other video devices to it. Now, user guides lose me after a while--they are definitely written for geeks and assume that the reader can fill in the blanks. I'm wondering if "other video devices" could include the digital box for satellite reception. Can a computer function like a TiVo? I guess that's my question.
