| Did anyone watch the MTV News Special "I'm in an interracial relationship" |
|
I caught it last night around midnight.
They had three couples
A white man and a black woman
A hispanic man and a white woman
A white man and a black man
Couple #1 showed how some black men hated the fact that a black woman was with the white man
Couple #2 The man was in the army, they got pregnant and at first her parents were not accepting of the relationship
Couple #3 They were apartment hunting and at certain places, the agencies did not like the fact that 1) They were gay and 2) they were an interracial couple
It was a pretty interesting special. Check it out if it's ever on. They run those things over and over.

| 1. I missed it, but then I rarely watch TV anymore |

I'm in an interracial relationship and have not encountered any overt hostility, but I can imagine it would be a lot tougher if we were also gay!

| 4. In my current relationship, no problems |
|
Of course, white men with Asian women are pretty common... however, even when I was in China a few months ago with my wife, we had no problems (though, I did notice a ton of stares!)
But, I've heard a few whispers in previous interracial relationships, and one friendship. With the friendship, I was out in Vegas and contacted a female friend of mine that had moved out there a few years earlier to see if she could show me around. When we were going around Vegas, I heard a few not so quiet whispers from some white women.
And, I heard similar from some black guys when I had dated a black woman - but, no outright hostility.

I caught it when it aired a few months ago. Thought it was interesting. Pretty well done for the most part. It would have been nice to see more facets of the relationships or a relationship where the couple had been together longer, etc. But I understand it is MTV.

| 5. When my SO and I first met, we would always meet at a bar in the |
|
afternoon, and have the snacks (god it has been so long since I have been to a bar I forgot what they call those free snacks? AMAZING!) anyway, we were sitting at a booth and some redneck white guy brings me one of the 'free snacks' and I say "well, thank you" and start to put it up to my mouth and my SO says "DO NOT EAT THAT"
I was VERY ignorant of the types of people who hang around bars,(Not because I never went to a bar, but because I never went there with my SO, or any other black man before) we only met there because it was in between where we worked, and he supplied them (the bar) with their T-Shirts. That was my first lesson in racism! But not my last!
