Just got back from Puerto Rico yesterday. I was there for a conference, so spent most of my time in the San Juan area, but took a guided tour to El Yunque on Monday. My trip list is 47 birds total, with 32 of those being life birds.
Sorry for not posting in taxonomic order!
Carribean Martin Greater Antillean Grackle (found everywhere!) Red-legged Thrush American Oystercatcher Zenaida Dove Wood Duck Spotted Sandpiper White-winged Dove Common Ground Dove Bananaquit Northern Mockingbird Rock Pigeon House Sparrow Brown Pelican Magnificent Frigatebird (The most common seabird I saw, believe it or not) Pearly-eyed Thrasher Gray Kingbird Cave Swallow Red-tailed Hawk Green Heron Black-faced Grassquit Great Egret Puerto Rican Woodpecker Puerto Rican Bullfinch Puerto Rican Tody Puerto Rican Flycatcher Nutmeg Manniken Black-whiskered Vireo Antillean Euphonia Puerto Rican Spindalis (AKA Stripe-headed Tanager) Scaly-naped Pigeon Mangrove Cuckoo Loggerhead Kingbird Shiny Cowbird Green Mango (hummingbird) Antillean Oriole (may soon be split into a Puerto Rican Oriole) Yellow-faced Grassquit Puerto Rican Tanager Smooth-billed Ani Cattle Egret Little Blue Heron Royal Tern Sandwich Tern Laughing Gull Ruddy Turnstone Black-bellied Plover (Non-breeding plumage) Semi-palmated Plover
I also heard but did not see the Puerto Rican Lizard-Cuckoo, and I saw what may have been a tropicbird and what was either a masked or blue-faced booby. I also missed seeing a Northern Parula, but I'll see one on saturday at Magee Marsh, OH, probably.
all in all, a great trip. If you go and are looking for a guide, I recommend the one I used, Adventours. Hilda Morales did a great job making sure I got the maximum amount of birds and was knowledgable about habitats.
