In the morning it started early watching three ruby throated hummingbirds fluttering around the yard. Then on the way to church I found a gorgeous Cooper's Hawk trying to get a squirrel. It missed and just stood in the street rather dejectedly. Later on in the day we went down to a lake about an hour from home to visit some friends for the labor day weekend. There I kayaked around the lake and saw, in no particular order,
Great Blue Herons in nests with chicks Great Egrets Green Heron Cattle Egrets A type of sandpiper, but I need to figure out which one. Killdeer (very common I know) Black Vultures Turkey Vultures Red Tailed Hawks Either Forster's Terns or Least Terns (not sure) Two Ospreys Carolina Chickadees More Ruby Throated Hummingbirds Cardinals Cowbirds Crows Lark Sparrow House finches A bright yellow bird, probably a warbler of some sort, flew right past me at one point, but I have no idea what it was really.
I wanted to try to find a Wood Stork which are known to make it into North Texas from time to time, but none were there. I also wanted to find a tufted titmouse, but I didn't have any luck there either, but I wasn't disappointed. It was a fun time.
