So, I'm getting picked up at 2AM tonight by some birding friends. We're going to Niagara Falls.
Two guesses on what bird we're after!

but the damn bird took off the day before.
We rented a van and headed off at 2 am Saturday morning to Niagara Falls. Got there around 8AM and spent the whole morning scanning the falls area, sorting through all the gulls for the bird. Did get some good looks at Thayer's and Iceland Gulls. But no Ross's Gull.
We then headed down the river, making various stops along the way. We had a great stop at the Adam Beck II station, where we had great views of both adult and juvenile Thayer's side by side, with juvenile Iceland Gulls, all standing together. And I finally picked up my life Little Gull, so that's the consolation prize.
Oh well. Just have to chase the next one, I guess!

Minnesota had a Ross's (Twin Cities), Ivory (Duluth), Slaty-backed (Superior Land fill) and the usual cast of Glaucous, Iceland, Thayer's, and "Kumlien's." Great year for Gulls (Black-tailed in Iowa) this winter.

Iceland, Ivory, and Slaty-backed are my last three for North America. :P
