E-birding is awesome.
So far I have just been entering my back yard sightings, but the possibilities are endless.
You can generate maps and bar charts for species and locations, and use e-bird to find species you haven't seen.
Plus, it's science.
Yay, science!

| 1. You can also enter in all your old data, too |

I've been using it for a couple of years now. I have only one beef: The program needs to be able to recognize when a species is not on a state's accepted record list, even if it is an ABA-species. I've written them and told them flat out that I won't be submitting any Trumpeter Swan sightings from Ohio since they are an introduced species and don't count, and I don't want them showing up on my Ohio list. Conversely, there are some Florida species that I did submit that I have to remember to subtract from my ABA list on Ebird, since they are on the state list but aren't on the ABA accepted species list (or weren't at the time I saw them).

I just got an email from an eBird reviewer about a sighting I submitted TWO YEARS ago - Red-breasted Mergansers in Florida in May. I was racking up life birds at the time, so I don't even really recall the mergansers. I'm sure I saw them, since it's a common migrant here in Ohio. But I have my notebook to check and see to make sure I didn't enter in the data for the wrong species on the eBird checklist.

I got another eBird reviewer email - this time about a Western Meadowlark I saw in East Saint Louis in 2005! Why would that even be a review bird in that location?
