On Sunday I discovered a raven with a broken wing hiding out in a tall bush in my backyard.
After making a few calls I came across the California Wildlife Center, which rehabilitates animals and reintroduces them to the wild. They told me to get it into a box and they would come by and pick it up the next day. I pushed it out of the bush with a broom, after which it hopped behind a storage shed - had to climb up on the roof of the shed and push it out with a pole. It was apparently in shock - completely motionless - so it was easy to get it into a box.
I thought it might have died, but the next morning it was making a lot of noise in the box when I handed it off to the volunteer from CWC. Coincidentally it was the day of their Open House, so I got to go by later in the day and check in on it. They had it in an incubator in their ICU, and said the break was in a bad place, but they were going to take x-rays.
Pretty amazing that a place like this even exists...gave them some $$$. They rehabilitate everything from eagles, to skunks, to coyotes, to mule deer, to bobcats.
