BISBEE —The county Planning and Zoning Commissioners voted unanimously during Wednesday’s meeting to approve a special use permit allowing Ash Canyon Bed and Breakfast to offer public bird watching on the owner’s 6.5-acre parcel.
Owner/operator Mary Jo Ballator has drawn birders for the past nine years to her Spring Road property where she has feeders set out for the feathered visitors who call the Huachuca foothills home during the summer months. Two of her regulars from Mexico are not often seen in southern Arizona — Lucifer’s hummingbird and the plain-capped star throat hummingbird. The two draw as many as 30 to 50 people a day during the peak season from April through August. She asks for a $5 donation from her birding visitors to help pay for sugar water. "
Ash Canyon B&B is where I got my life Lucifer's, as a matter of fact. It's also where I added Wild Turkey and Goshawk to my Arizona list!
