The nature center where I volunteer just got a brand new eastern screech owl (otus asio). He joins Owly and Scarlet, our other two e.s.o's. He is unable to be released into the wild as he has eye problems. So, if you're ever in Urbana, Illinois, stop by and check them out!
Side note: I know this really doesn't have anything to do with wild birdwatching. I just wanted to share the good news!

I adore owls and would watch them all day, given the chance, LOL! You must be so excited. When we lived in Florida, there were zillions of barred owls in the woods behind our house, it was so much fun to listen to them at sunset and watch them flit from tree to tree.
Keep us posted with how he adjusts to his new home!

adjusting to his new surroundings. They have the owl exhibit closed until he gets used to being there. He is so much smaller than the other two (the others are female), and he has the sweetest little face!
