I'm starting to get very bored and not liking cardio much.
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 10:00 PM by Cobalt Violet
Every weight day I'm off to the gym with enthusism. On cardio days I'm just wanting to get it over with. I work during the hours with the only classes I'm interested in at my gym. So I'm just stuck on the eliptical and once in a while the treadmill.

I'm hope it's just a passing phase.

Does anyone have any ideas?

1. Any chance of getting outside?
Spring is upon us. What about running outside or riding a bike? I know that it's more difficult sometimes to go full-tilt out and about, getting the heart rate up and whatnot. It might break the monotony AND give a little shock to the ole internal cardio system that may have grown used to same time/same exercise

5. My bike was stole a while ago.
I can't afford another yet. I think I can go outside and do some fast walking. I'm not to into running out there because I'm too self conscious about my bouncing body parts. That's why I chose to work out in a gym in the first place.

Is it possible to do a HIIT type workout with walking?

2. I have always loathed cardio.
I am actually enjoying it more in my old age. But here is what I do when I get bored.

Get outside. A change of scenery is wonderful.

Slow down. Sometimes I am just tired. So I walk rather than run and enjoy the scenery. It seems to restart my energy after a few days and I go back to running.

New playlist for the ipod. Something new and upbeat to listen to can be just the ticket.

Good luck! :hi:

6. I think outside is a good idea.
I may have to drive a little to get away from all the malls and big box stores that are my neighbors.

3. Stationary bike/life-cycler???
Or how about a brisk walk outside?

I do cardio EVERY day, and at this stage of the game, I'm really working towards something (my 1st 5K run next month) so for me, there's great incentive to go and to not only do the run, but to do well with it.

Maybe you need a goal of some kind, something to work towards that will give you some motivation.

Ironically, I get very bored w/ my weight room routine. I know I need it to firm up (especially since losing all the weight I've lost and I'm trying to tone up so that the saggy skin doesn't look so pathetic), so I do the weights 4 to 5 times a week, but man, I'm really bored with it.

4. Those are excellent suggestions.
As much as I enjoy riding my bike, there are times when I'm hot and tired and ready to quit but I'll go a little further when I remember that I really want to do 28 miles at the bike ride next weekend and I need to keep training. I also listen to music when I ride at the bike path (no traffic, dogs, walkers, or joggers and everyone is going one way so it's safe!) The music often helps me with my cadence.

7. Are you listening to music?
w/o music I find cardio to be a total bore and pain -- it is endless and hooooooorrrrible.

w music I can zone out, enjoy, and get some thinking done too if I feel like it.

10. I find radio talk makes cardio go much slower -- just me, I guess
something about the mixed rhythms of speech really throws me off, and makes it painful for me. So I ditched the radio, got a cheap mp3 flash player ala ipod shuffle and loaded it w up-tempo music. Anyway I hope things work for you. . .

Can you find a local running trail? I'm applying for a job that requires a physical fitness test that consists of running up 3 flights of stairs. I'm going to start running stadium stairs at one of our local parks this weekend to get ready for it. Maybe you can find some in your area lol.

14. get some tapes and mix and match at home
you get much more variety. If you in a total sloth phase just get up and walk until that feeling passes
