Tues, 5/17: I worked out today--did you? |
|
I ran 2 miles on the track at the gym. I didn't have time to do any work in the weight room as I had to be in the classroom to proctor an exam.
For the record, I did jog yesterday afternoon... and here's the humorous story to that:
My son's girlfriend, Tina (all 103 lbs, size 2 of her), was at the house yesterday when I got home. He was about to get into the bathtub, so I asked Tina if she wanted to go for a run w/ me while Tim was in the tub. She said sure, and she borrowed some of his shorts and a T-shirt and we drove to the high school to use the track. We started out and Tina held back for the first lap because I am very slow. The second lap, Tina ran her normal speed. For laps 3 through 7, she walked. She stopped after that. I jogged 12 laps (3 miles).
I guess it goes to show you, size is not always a sign of how physically fit you are.

That's a great story. Skinnier isn't always fitter.

3. Yes I did! And that is so true |
|
Just because someone is thin, doesn't mean that they can run with any of us who have been running regularly. No matter what you weigh, it's just not easy. I bet your kids are very proud of you.
I ran my 2 miles this morning. I don't know how you can stand to run so many laps. That sounds terrible. I found a 2 mile loop, thank god, b/c I dont' think I'd be able to stick with it if I had to run so many laps.
I went to bed early and was able to force myself out of bed at 5:45. It wasn't easy, but I'm so glad I did.

4. benefits and tradeoffs |
|
yeah, it's boring to run laps. When I run the gym at work, I have to run even more of them because it's a 1/10th mile track.
The upside is that both the track at the high school and the track at the gym are a softer surface than running in the road. Also, I don't have to be aware of motor vehicles.
When I run on Thursday, I will run on the road. I'm going to run a 5K on that day, and then just do 1.5 miles on Friday, so that I'll be reasonably rested for my road race on Saturday.

5. Thin does not equal fit |
|
and does not equal healthy, either. I did my Step Heat DVD.

Is this the regular fitness check-in? I'm keen to join and to be held accountable by all you inspiring fitness gurus!
A little background on me: I'm 25, and have been in reasonable shape most of my life as I tend to be pretty active. But last year I moved to Bangkok and it's a nightmare for someone like me to try and get exercise because being outdoors is just YUCK (hot and polluted -- rumor has it that if you jog 30 minutes it's like smoking a pack of cigarettes) and the nearest gym is at least 45 minutes away with the horrible traffic.
Anyway, I feel unhealthy, as I spend most of my days behind the computer. BUT, I'm lucky in that I've just started working from home so can be pretty flexible.
SO! I've committed to a new routine of regular (daily) swimming (I can swim non-stop for about 30 minutes) and 3 times a week of pilates (either at the studio in town or using my videos at home).
I swam 5/17, and am planning to both swim and do my pilates vid today. Help me keep going!

10. Welcome to the group Jean Louise! |

I work out most days and then post here about what I did. It helps to keep me honest.
I have NEVER been in shape in my life (well, I guess round is a shape) and last year I had gastric bypass surgery. I have lost about 85 lbs. so far, and have another 35 to 45 to lose. It's coming off a lot more slowly now.
I have been jogging for 2 months, and I also spend a little time in the weight room at least 3 days per week (for upper body and ab work).
I ran my very first road race today. It was a 5K. I'm hooked. My goal is to be ready to run a 10K next summer, and then maybe the following year I'll do a mini triathlon.

Keep it up and I bet you'll reach your goal by this time next year.
It took me probably 9 months to lose 35 to 45lbs. It was so gradual that I didn't really notice I lost anything until winter came and I started wearing my jeans again (they were way too big). I wear elastic waist band shorts in the summer, and I couldn't really tell that I lost weight wearing those.
