Tuesday, 8/2: I worked out today--did you? |
|
Hi folks!
I did 35 minutes on the elliptical and then went into the strength equipment room and did my ab and knee workouts. I even added the leg adductor to my knee workout (though that's more of a thigh exercise).
One of my ab exercises involves sitting on a big ball and lifting each leg while maintaining balance. As I was sitting on the ball I noticed that my shoulders had some honest-to-goodness tone to them. Mind you, they're not "cut" or anything, but I can see muscles where I could not see them before.
Nothing like seeing results! :bounce:
So, what's you guys' stories today?

I actually felt like I looked good in a sleeveless dress the other day... :woohoo:
I'm going to Pilates tonight and don't know if I'll have time to do anything else, since I'm leaving town tomorrow and am totally unprepared...

3. I'll probably never look good sleeveless |

Given the amount of weight I have lost, I have a lot of excess skin that hangs from the back of my arms. Toning the muscle around it helps, but once skin stretches, there's really nothing you can do about it, short of surgery.

But I was a little bummed when I hopped on the scales today. I started working out almost 2 weeks ago and I weighed 277 at the time. I was down to 271 a couple of days ago. Today I weighed in at 275. What's the deal? I've actually started eating more healthfully over the past few days.

they can be very deceptive.
My suggestion is that if you really must weigh yourself regularly, don't do it more often than once per week. If it were me, I would do it every 2 weeks or even every month.
Fluctuations in water retention, time of day of your weigh-in, etc can all make weighing in daily VERY frustrating.
Let other things be your indicators: how do your clothes fit? how do you feel? how do you look? When the scale gets finicky, these other indicators will never let you down.

6. Well I don't look any different |

My clothes fit the same. But I do feel better. But I'm sure a lot of that has to do with quitting smoking as well as working out.

I didn't have a lot of pep, though. Kinda just slogged through it. I dunno.
I think starting next week I'll mix things up again.

It's a great feeling, huh? One of the students I tutor told me she thought I looked more toned. :)
I tried the 17-mile commute today. Unfortunately, the motor on my electric bike cut out on me about three miles from home. I tried to do without it but that bike weighs a ton with the motor and battery and only has seven speeds. I had to call my husband and he rode it home the rest of the way while I drove his truck. We think it overheated but I'm waiting for opinions over at the Yahoo Power Assist board (there's a board for EVERYTHING, don't you know? :))
It was 97 degrees when I rode home. I usually go ride in the morning and go home later when it's cooler (like low 90's ;) but I gave my evening class the night off and decided to ride since I could get home before dark for a change. At least the battery indicator still showed green -- my concern all along has been getting enough range from the batteries.
So my bike commute is still a work in progress! :)
