Why is it always the second day? |
|
I was supposed to go for a long bike ride today, with a friend. We were going to get up really early, meet in Bklyn and ride to Coney Island.
But I played softball Friday night - I haven't really played softball in months because I had knee surgey in May and have been slowly on the mend. I didn't really play softball Friday night either because I had a hit to right center and GOT THROWN AT FIRST BASE.
But I did try to run as hard as I could - I also ended up pitching the entire game because we were short on players - I actually came to the game just wanting to cheer the team, I didn't think I was actually going to play.
So yesterday I was amazed that I wasn't feeling more pain - I thought, wow, those two trips to the gym this week really paid off.
Today - I can barely move. My left glute is so sore it hurts to sit and both my quads are killing me.
So I had to cancel my bike ride - last night I was feeling great and today I'm crippled.
Is there anything I could have done to keep the lactic acid from wreaking havoc 48 hours after the fact.

I was very sore after my first workout in a long time. It will be okay in a day or two.

after your workouts. This will help but not get rid of soreness. The lactic acid buildup is DURING your workout that causes the burning sensation in you muscles. When you push your muscles you make tiny tears in them that your muscles must repair. THIS causes the DOMS you are feeling. You'll get use to it. Try water, plent of rest, light cardio, and warm baths.
