Utah was gorgeous. We(a friend and I) did an 8 mile hike in Bryce Canyon. 6 miles in Escalante to see some petroglyphs and a waterfall. 15 miles in an overnight hike in Capitol Reef park and 3 miles of light trail walks in Zion. I'll discount walking 2 miles along the Vegas strip since we were drinking frozen margaritas at the time. Didn't lose a single pound but feel great and I know my legs are in better shape for it.

The person I went with is my original hiking and climbing partner from 30 years ago. Unfortunately he has been suffering from depression and has developed an extreme fear of heights. Part of the reason for the trip was to get him out of his rut and back in the mountains. I'm going to keep pressing him to get back into the Mountaineers to do some light alpine work with winter. He used to lead their beginner trips. Maybe next time.
