What exercise do you hate? |
|
And do you do them even though you hate them?
For me, it's crunches. Any variation. I was thinking about it this morning while I was doing them. I really despise crunches....no matter how much I try, I always tense up my neck. Yet I still do them, hoping one day I'll get a 2-pack (you know, that long hallow cavity in the torso).
Runner up: Deadlifts. I do avoid these.
What exercises do you loathe?

1. I loathe squats of any kind. |
|
Free weight, Smith machine, hack...you name it, I hate 'em. Why? The whole time I did them, constant worry about the knees and my balance when doing them freestanding. So, I don't do them anymore, at all. I've put more size on my quads using heavy leg presses on the sled and negatives on the leg extensions.
Important tip on that 2-pack: Unless your bodyfat is in the basement, you can crunch all day long and it won't show.

For that matter, I loathe leg day in general. But I still start out leg day with squat, and move on to the sled, where I can go as heavy as I want and don't worry about falling face first.

10. I used to hate pushups, too |
|
But not so much anymore... I found that when I started getting better at them, I didn't hate them as much. The other day, I did 5 sets of 20 pushups each & it actually felt pretty good! :)

4. I was just thinking this morning which ones are my favorites! |
|
But what I really hate are the abduction(?) leg exercises where you balance on one leg while pushing against resistance with the other. Works the outer thighs. And right now, no, I'm not doing them (and no one can make me! :D)
What I really love doing are bench press and leg press. It just feels good to use those major muscles!

no matter how careful I am, I never feel like I'm doing them right. Its such an awkward movement, especially with weights in your hands.

I don't have the best balance, and I can't stand them. I never feel like I can keep form. So, leg curls for me.
I also don't like any exercise that requires a spotter.

I *despise* lunges!! But, I make myself do them because they really do work - I feel it in my legs for days when I include lunges in my workouts.

Nothing else works your upper back as well as pull ups. But I hate them.

12. I've been doing pulldowns and assited pullups |
|
I have had an extended break from exercise and expected to be fairly weak , but to my surprise I'm essentially right back where I was before I stopped going regularly. I'm up to 110 lbs at 10 reps on the pulldown, which is 64% of my body weight.

And I can do a bunch of them from my rock climbing days. Mostly it's fun cause it freaks the men out when a woman can do more than them, lol.
Dips are hard for me, must be a different muscle set that I didn't use as much, but I am improving with practice.

14. I loooove squats, hate bench pressing. |
|
I can't stand the bench press - the thought of holding a very heavy weight over my throat is just not appealing, somehow... I do dips instead.
Squats on the other hand, are the bomb. Doing them 3-4 days a week has really improved my form on them. My other perennial favorite is the deadlift. It has such a great feeling of whole-body strength.

15. I hate crunches, too. |
|
Crunches on the stability ball are harder and go faster. I also do several other core exercises with the ball instead of crunching.
I don't do anything I flat out hate. I have pretty much fulfilled my exercise goals. I am thin enough. So exercise is mostly for fun and relaxation. So I don't do stuff I hate anymore.
When I trained seriously for sports, I did stuff I disliked in order to improve my overall performance. Maybe someday, when my kids are older and I have more time, I will get serious again.
