Questions to ask about a research report
American Dietetic Association

1 Was the research done by a credible institution and by qualified researchers?

2 Is this a preliminary study? Have other studies reached the same conclusions?

3 Was the research population large enough? Was the study long enough?

4 Who paid for the study? Might that affect the findings? Is the science valid despite
the funding Source?

5 Was the report viewed by peers?

6 Does the report avoid absolutes, such as "proves" or "causes"?

7 Does the report reflect appropriate context (e.g., how the research fits into a
broader picture of scientific evidence and consumer lifestyles)?

8 Do the results apply to a certain group of people?
