January 8 - My first day back on the floor since late October .... |
|
I decided to try something different and took time off from weight training. I just did cardio and abs. Today was my first day back on. Monday is legs day.
Going back was an awakening. I slowly added weight doing hack squats and I felt it. The abductor and adductor routine felt great, but the leg extensions killed me. It burned but felt great! The lying curls and calf raises were good, but I think I could've done better (the extensions got me).
Then 15 mins of abs and 30 mins on the elliptical stepper and my legs are DEAD. Hurts so good. Tuesday is chest and can't wait to hurt.

1. I'm back too, and back in this forum. |
|
Jeesh, I've taken almost a year off from exercising. How awful. And, of course, I've gotten stiff and fat. :( Oh well. You do what you can do. Today I went to hot yoga, for the fourth or fifth time in the last couple of weeks, and I'm really pleased by how much better my lower back is feeling. Even with all the time off, it's not quite the same as starting from scratch, so that's REALLY nice.

3. I swam early this morning. |

I'm still considering whether or not to try to add in some weight training to be better rounded. I know it would do me good and would be great for increased muscle definition. I'm a little afraid to mess with my formula because I've been faithful about swimming for so long I worry about messing that up.

4. I've done weights and cardio for years ... |
|
some people have suggested that you should take time off from the weights; when you come back, your body will react more. My plan was just November, but something said the hell with it and go to the end of the year. It kinda worked to my advantage as I caught the flu that's going around and that would have disrupted my routine. I finally shook it off this past weekend.
I would add some weights, at least to shake things up. I'm at work, but at home I have a book called "Getting Stronger" and they have weight training routines based on individual sports. I would recommend going on the internets and look for a program to compliment your swimming.
