"Graduated" from Cardiac Rehab today
I've completed the required number of sessions and reached or surpassed all the benchmarks so Phase II Cardiac Rehab is over for me. The follow-on program, Phase III, has been "farmed out" to the local YMCA which I have some serious differences with so I'm not sure I'll go onto their Phase III or just try to keep up the exercise regime myself.

I have to say that I'm going to miss the people at Cardiac Rehab. They were really great to work with and I go the feeling that they really cared about how you were progressing. They taught me a lot.

The first visit to Cardiac Rehab, I was in a wheel chair because two weeks out of surgery, I still wasn't strong enough to climb stairs or successfully navigate around the huge medical complex under my own power for too long......it's hard to believe....I'm in much better shape now...I'm even in better shape than I was before the surgery....I've lost 12 pounds and 5 inches off my waistline.....

1. Woo-Hoo!!!
Congrats!!! You've come a LONG way, you should be so proud of yourself!!

I totally relate with you on the YMCA... I've had chances to join for pretty reasonable rates, but I just can't bring myself to do that. Have you thought about looking into local gyms and/or other hospitals? I know one of our local hospital has a gym that people can join & have trainers on hand to help to work out a good regime.

3. Our local hospital/clinic
had facilities and a program available for a reasonable fee, but the administrators decided to "outsource" it to the "Y".

Since we're in a pretty small community (20-25K ) there is only one private gym in town and the "Y". Those are the options.....

I'm looking into buying a treadmill or aerodyne......

6. Don't I wish!!!
I'm feeling guilty already because I helped myself to about a half-dozen peanut butter cookies!!!!!

I have two things going for me:

1. A well-developed guilt complex, and
2. A wife who is totally comfortable being a food Nazi!!!

8. hooray for you!
Congrats for your hard work. And you're doubly lucky to have the support of the "food nazi." :) Here's wishing you continued health and happiness!

Re FOOD: Fortunately, the whole grains and veggies that we're "supposed" to eat can actually be quite tasty when home-cooked.

I have roommates who will bring home fast food hot dogs, KFC and pizza when I don't cook... but last week when i made a stir-fried tofu with veggies (LOTS of healthy veggies, and sunflower seeds!) over BULGUR, of all things, I assure you EVERYONE was at the table. There wasn't even any left for my sweetie that night!

At one point last year I had to buy a larger stockpot to feed the various roommates and boyfriends and friends eating my soups -- seems like the healthier the meal, the more people magically show up. (Fortunately I'm an extravert and love having all of these people in my house!)
