3. Could you tell me how you do your deadlifts so I can see if I am doing them
correctly? I don't have free weights -- I have an exercise machine with a stack of weights and pulleys. Since the lower pulley attachment is a couple of inches off the floor, I had my husband cut me a board that is about two inches thick that I can stand on to get more stretch. But what is the proper stance? Should I bend my knees to save my back? Could you talk me through it?

Thanks! :hi:

4. There is a stiff legged deadlift but the normal type is with knees bent
http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/ErectorSpinae/BBDeadlift.html
Notice that the back is staight with a slight arch to it. Head is up, don't look down. Arms are straight.
There are two different stances. Conventional and Sumo, both work well. The Sumo seems to be gaining with the powerlifters. The main difference between them is arms inside the knees or outside.
I have done stiff legged deadlifts as a prep to the start of a new program, but I don't know enough to tell you the right way and not mess up your back.

5. Oh, this helps a lot!
Thanks! I was bending my knees just enough to take the pressure off of my lower back but the video in your link shows a much better workout for my legs. I'll give it a try with my machine and see how it feels. :yourock:
