what do you drink when working out ? |
|
i'm guessing water is the best thing to drink.
but i know some who drink diet coke and many drink those sports drinks.
sometimes i just feel i need some flavor and drink some soda along with water.
is it bad to drink certain things ? and what are the best things to drink ?

If I am doing all day, outdoor stuff, I bring a bottle of sports drink which I drink late in the day. I usually feel like I need some extra calories by then, and I read that the carbs help with recovery.

though I am a diet soda drinker. But the only time I actually crave water is when I'm working out so I take advantage of that desire.

3. Just water while I'm working out |
|
but I do have some post workout drinks as soon as I'm finished. Usually I have a whey protein shake and then some grape juice. This gives me PWO nutrition of protein and fast-acting carbs at the time when our muscles need it most. This combination in the ratio of 2:1 carbs:protein helps our muscles recover and keeps our body from using our muscles as a fuel source (catabolism).
I try to drink a lot of water throught the day ot keep me hydrated.

I don't like Gatorade or anything like that, just plain room temp. water.

j/k. Just wanted to break the "water" monotony.
I drink water (and lots of it) as well. Soda can act as a diuretic, and may not be a good idea for an intense workout. You could try a sports drink or maybe some Crystal Light type of mix. Or drop a lemon/lime in your water.

But occasionally, I like to drink Propel for a bit of a flavor. Every once in a while, I might mix a splash of Gatorade in with my water, too.

9. Water, water and more water. |

I drink a ton of water during a workout -- which sometimes can have interesting effects when doing ab/core work (slosh, slosh). :)

12. water...I can't imagine drinking anything carbonated while working out... |
|
seems like the bubbles would make me feel bloated. I saw a couple of guys at my gym workout while drinking diet coke the other day. It was the first time I ever saw anyone working out with sodas and it seemed gross to me. Probably because the syrup would seem too sticky when my mouth is already kind of dry.
I'll stick with water...and the colder the better.

j/k :P
but seriously, stay away from stuff that dehydrates you. like sweet or caffeinated stuff.
If you're sick of plain water, then try flavored water or dilute a sports drink with water. Vitamin water works nicely.
And should you really be drinking a lot while you're working out? Try waiting until after your workout and have a soy protein smoothie with berries and bananas.

I drink about a quart of water after my walks. Some before too, and as it gets hotter I'll have a smaller bottle along with me to drink on the way. Good water. One of life's little pleasures.

I've never been much for the flavored drinks when I'm working out. I find them to be too sweet.

16. Stay away from soft drinks when working out |

water is good. If you are doing a long workout, 1.5 hours or more, try a sports drink like gatorade.
