A Cautionary Tale
Dammit, I think I tore my ACL. I'm hoping it's a partial tear and I can just do PT.

Here's the cautionary tale party. When it happened, my knee felt better than it had in years! I've lost 65 pounds and this summer I've been incredibly active, playing softball on three different teams.

So I go out to practice some base running and my regular knee brace was still damp from washing it the night before. So I wore a different knee brace with less support, and that's when I injured it.

So if you wear some kind of support for knees, ankles, etc. - like an Amex card - don't leave home without it.

1. Update - No tears to ACL or meniscus
Some damage to the articular cartilage but nothing too serious. After six weeks of physical therapy I'll hopefully be ready for Fall Ball.

2. glad to hear it
I had heard that once you used a knee brace there was no going back... in fact when I first started jogging I asked my doc about whether or not I should wear a brace on my knee because me knees felt "weak"

She told me to talk to a trainer at the gym to learn some knee strengthening exercises and to hold off on the brace.

5. Thanks, I started PT on Friday, 2nd session this morning
I kind of over did over the weekend, went to the beach and did a lot of walking and frolicking in the ocean. So I'm walking a little gingerly today, but I went on lifecycle for 10 minutes and got my heartrate up to 100. She also put me on the leg press. I did some reps of 40 pounds. Last spring I was doing 400 at the gym.

4. Are those as mega expensive as I hear they are?
Well, whatever the cost, if I needed to pay for something in order to keep playing, I'd find a way.
