Supernova Training thread
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 10:55 PM by supernova
This is my thread for training. I have always wanted to start the habit of getting up and exercising, but I have never been able to do it. So, this December I intend to acquire that habit.

This morning I got up and walked a mile on the treadmill. Not a lot, but it's a start. My goal is to get up to about 1/2 hour in the morning before breakfast.

1. Good for you!
I don't like getting up any earlier than I have too, so morning workouts are the hardest for me to do. However, once I get in the routine, I am more consistent with working out & it also keeps me from eating junk throughout the day. When I find myself wishing for a Coke or some candy, I remember my morning workout & realize I didn't get up early to workout so I could have a donut!

I will be checking your thread as I add to my own on a daily basis! We can be virtual workout buddies. ;)

Good luck!

3. 12/4 Check in
I did my mile today.

I'm going to take it very easy this week and just get into the habit. I am feeling not drinking coffee though. Tea doesn't quite replace it. I hope that will bet better.

OTOH, I got some Yerba Matte for lunch yesterday and wow, did I do an energizer bunny all afternoon. Not typical for me at all, even on coffee.

I did my mile this morning!

:woohoo:

I have to remember to use my iPod, but it sure is nice listening to Whoopi in the morning on the xmas radio channel. She's genuinely funny, intelligent, and refreshingly nonobnoxious.

5. You're doing it!
Feels good to get your workout done early, doesn't it? Keep it up!

I need to get an ipod. I would love to have some rockin' music while walking hills.

6. iPods help a lot
or any MP3 player. I strongly support them. I find commericals and DJs/news/weather/traffic/ to be very disrupting to me when I'm exercising.

I put together a playlist will all my dance/trance stuff to keep up the cardio pace. And I also subscribe to The Meditation Podcast, which is guided meditations. Very cool for focused destressing.

I did my mile this morning and it really felt great. I'm starting to see what a great wake-upper it is.

I missed yesterday because I felt tired all day. Perhaps I didn't sleep well Wed night. :P

Oh well. I've done four days this week and I see no reason I can't do tomorrow morning too.

8. What kind of treadmill do you have? Does it fold up or do you leave it up all the time?
I have been thinking about getting one for a few months...good for you to wake up and exercise!

9. I have an earlier version of this Pro Form
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00638538000P?vName=Fitness+%26+Sports&keyword=Pro-Form

Except I don't have a fan. It does fold up, but it's not really portable for a small person like me so I just leave it set up in a spare bedroom.

I like that it has a "track" display so that you can see where you are on the lap, it also has the 8 programmed routines and I can also get more from the web, but I'm not really in shape enough for that. :P

It does inclines and goes all the way up to 10 miles/hour.

It was expensive when I bought it about 6 years ago but it's been well worth it to have it at home. Sears even delivered it and set it up. :-)

I did my mile this morning as usual. I felt a little slow from not doing it over the weekend.

But I did feel like doing an extra 15 minutes this evening. :-)

So all told, I did about a mile and 3/4.

I did my mile and I could feel maybe tomorrow pick up the pace a little bit. Today was the first day I was actually antsy to get out of bed so I could exercise.

That has never happened before. :-)

And just think, once we pass the first day of winter, it will just get easier & easier! I hate getting up in the dark & cold!

In my case it was a couple of glasses of Prosecco and 1 and 1/2 classic martinis. :P

(Over the course of about six hours)

I'm too old for that shit. But it was a first date and I was really nervous. :scared:

I met him at a Kucinich funderaiser last Saturday. I had qualms about going because I'm rather antisocial. But I made myself go, it's the act of getting ready that is hard for me sometimes. Turns out it was a fab party and I had a wonderful time. At least three different people told me they were documentarians.

One was this guy. We seemed to connect and shared a couple of smoochy dances. Agreed to meet on Tues night.

He invited me to watch the sunset out at the Lake, which was nice.

But I found out he wants "an open relationship" and sees "several other women." I'm not that thrilled. At least he was honest. I really only want to date men who are available. He seems to want a harem. :P

edit: Thanks for allowing me to vent. I hadn't expressed that to anyone yet.

18. Open relationship -- retch.
Who are these other woman who are ok with that? I guess there are women who like that kind of relationship, although I don't know any.

Loved your harem comment!

Heh Heh. ;-)

He wants all the convenience without all the other stuff that goes with it.

I see very little rewarding about that situation for me.

Yeah, I can't imagine what the original gf/wife thinks about this. And I am not playing someone else's other woman.

Finally started feeling stronger today. Didn't feel like I was really pushing myself so hard just to get through a mile. And once again I was eager to get up and get going. :bounce: :D

Exercise is an even better eye opener than caffeine. :D

I'm feeling like I could add a short session in the evening, like light weights or yoga.

Today was my most efficient day yet. Got up, exercised got breakfast in a little over an hour.

:woohoo:

I also was able to reach something of a slow trot on the last lap, something I hadn't been able to do before now. I'm really feeling the effects of it ripple throughout my day. I feel much less tired in that 3-4pm slump than I have been.

My goal is to be able to get in at least 30 mins of cardio most mornings, regardless of what else I do the rest of the day.

Did great this am. Just trying to get up some speed to make it feel more like a cardio workout, eventhough it's a little short timewise. I want to get up to a full 20 mins of cardio at least and then a little time left over for the warm up/cool down.

However, my eating has not been great the past couple of days. :P With xmas shopping, I've gone out for lunch and wound up eating stuff I'm not compatible with, notably bread. And that's enough calories for two meals. But the good news is I haven't been tempted to continue eating in the evening when I get home. I'm happy with some tea or bullion and fruit. Going out shopping today at the big mall, and will try to stick to salad for lunch. :9

23. So, do you think you will try to continue the morning workout routine into the New Year?
Sounds like you are starting to see & feel the benefits of a consistent exercise routine. And adding some weights in the evening will really pay off. When I have to sacrifice a workout, I sacrifice cardio & always get my strength training in. Also, I can split my strength routine so it never takes more than 20 minutes. ;)

I think we've both got a good start & I'm am so happy I decided to take off a few pounds in December instead of waiting till January & possibly facing additional pounds! I don't think I'm going to make my 10 pound goal, but I've already lost 5 pounds & I have a week to go, so I'm happy!

It's been nice to have a virtual buddy to be inspired with!

We rock!!

24. Update
I had to stop the last part of the week because I came down with a cold. x(

Thursday wasn't feeling so fresh and by Friday afternoon I was feverish. I feel slightly better today and will try to finish my xmas shopping.

I hope to get in a morning walk or two over the holiday and get back on the treadmill later in the week.
