Any skaters (roller and/or ice) in here? |

Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 04:47 PM by DarkTirade
I started ice skating back in the fall, but now that the rinks are closed, I just bought a pair of roller blades. They're more than a bit awkward compared to my ice skates, but I'm trying to get a feel for 'em at least. :)
Anyone have any basic advice for care of skates, and care of myself while on said skates so I don't bust any body part of mine? I already learned how to take the wheels out and get the dirt out of the bearings, as one of the wheels seems to be a dirt magnet. And it's rather hard to skate with one wheel dragging. I've been roller blading it for about 12 - 13 years and love it. Are you using quads or inline skates? I find inlines to be very similar to ice skates. The big difference is the balance part; on roller blades, you must lean forward. If you stand up straight on them, your skates will go out from under you and you'll fall flat on your butt. You can stand straight up on ice skates without a problem. I find roller blading to be great exercise to shape up. It seems to tone my body overall much better than other exercise I do, like running or cycling. I know you asked about care and maintenance. I just have no information on such stuff. I know I should learn but I always seem to find other ways to spend my time. I'd love to hear more about your roller skating.
