I tried jogging today after a break due to a sore knee..... |
|
It started hurting after about 2.5 miles (I was going 8 previously). Now I'll have to go to the doc. What would be the best person to see, a sports medicine specialist? I have crappy insurance in terms of specialists and the nearest one who takes my plan would basically require me to take an entire day off work. I'm guessing my GP would just send me elsewhere so I might as well save myself one appointment and copay assuming I won't need a referral. I've never had this kind of issue before.
Note: I'm not asking for medical advice, just what professional to see.

1. An orthopedic doctor of any kind sees sports injuries. You don't have to find a sports medicine |

specialist, though I go to one. I have two arthritic knees from running for 20+ years. :-(
Typically they'll X-Ray your knee to see if you have arthritis or suggest an MRI if they think it's a tear. Either way, it's $$-even with decent insurance.
Google R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). Not offering medical advice!! Just google advice!! :-)

I saw an orthopedic surgeon for my back so I'll give him a call for the knee as well. I'm a little nervous about what the advice will be in terms of avoiding other types of exercise, but only the X/ray/MRI will tell what needs to be done.
