Question re daily protein intake. |
|
68 yr old, male, 200 lbs.
I work out with free weights on a four day split plan, with two days off. Also bicycle.
Amount of protein I am told I should take varies with the 'teller'. Different websites give different amounts as well.
These amounts range from a low of 55 up to 1 to 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. With supplements, I usually end up with about 110 grams/day, averaged over a week. I keep a daily food journal. My daughter's personal trainer told her I should have right around what I am getting.
I think the 1 to 1.5 gm per pound of body weight is aiming more for the elite body builders/power lifters, and that is not me.
My doctor suggested I not go below 190 lbs because of the way I am built, anything less will make me look emaciated. But he gave me no guidance on protein.
