to DU or not to DU..is that the question? |
|
"Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep; No more; and, by a sleep to say we end The heartache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream: aye, there's the rub; For in that sleep of death what dreams may come"
What happens when our party no longer exists? What about those who form the rank and file in the primaries? If Republicans really dream of a single party system, why not give them one? Let Democrats everywhere switch parties, what control or power would we lose? We would still have our principles, our goals, and our voice. But we would also have leverage, and control from within the majority party..
This alone would terrify Republicans! The bigots would dissolve into insignificant third parties, the wealthy would try to work within the party before fleeing. But this would do to Republicans nationwide what integration did for southern Democrats, suddenly Republicans would abandon the religious right..becoming Clinton-Carter style moderates.
The left would not disappear, but become stronger. Most importantly centralism would no longer be defined just by the corporate neocons, but by unions and liberals! A Republican nation ruled by a democratic underground..except neocons understood this strategy decades ago, could it still work today?

You know, I could possibly support Republicans if their slogans matched their reality. About getting the government out of your private life, and personal liberty and all that goofy stuff. But their slogans and their policies are about 180 degrees apart.

3. When I read posts like this I think |

OMG Nader was right.
....and that makes me really sick to my stomach... reality kicks you in the stomach.
I personally want to see if Dean is able to kick this party out of the corporate-lobbyist bunghole.... If not, the all bets are off.
PS - why would the Republicans be 'scared' of a 3rd or 4th party if they were lib??

7. Why would neocons fear a liberal Democratic party? |
|
neocons left the Democratic party only when Republicans had control. The one thing neocons desire and fear most is power.

4. Have you seen that great cartoon |
|
about how you can become a republican? Yes, let's join their party. We can all be one big party. Just like they want us to be. I'm going to sign up for my lobotomy this week. Hoo-ray for the one party system! We'll be rich, too.

5. How long would it take for a second party to emerge? |
|
I believe it would only work if all Democratic officeholders switch in unison. Talmadge and Kennedy were once in the same party, Talmadge also voted for Kennedy..why doesn't that happen today?

6. I think there will be a schism in the existing repug party soon |
|
The current GOP is an unholy marriage of the neocons, the religious right and the centrist, rational fiscal conservatives. Rational types are going to start resenting the religious right trying to install a theocracy. The religious right is going to start questioning the morality of the warmongering of the neocons. Watch, cracks will soon form in their foundation. It will be a riot to sit back and watch it.
Yours is an interesting albeit dangerous strategy. Seems like it would have the most impact on the presidency at the primary level. We could all become repugs and vote for the least electable most ridiculous candidate, like that judge from Alabama!!
