Why triple-talented Dean spells trouble for Republicans |
|
This article is by a Republican who is cautioning his party not to celebrate the nomination of Dean for DNC Chair. Republicans may think that the nomination of Dean is hysterically funny — a scream, in fact, as George Will recently put it — but they are deluding themselves if they think Dean is nothing more than a wild-eyed ideologue with a temper and a cult following.
Dean brings three talents to the chairmanship that can potentially sink not just a GOP presidential candidate in 2008 but the Republican-controlled House and maybe even the Senate well before then.
First, he's a fund-raiser par excellence. Lest we Republicans forget, not only did Howard Dean set records for fund raising, he set them in one of the most imaginative, difficult and unorthodox ways imaginable — namely, through the Internet. And remember, he set those records not by initially tapping the big-money crowd but by combing through the grass roots for nickels and dimes.
Second, and more important, Dean knows not only how to raise money but what to do with it once he gets it. He has repeatedly declared that he's going to rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up, blade by blade, volunteer by volunteer, state by state, because he understands that face-to-face get-out-the-vote programs, not slick advertising or direct-mail merchandizing, are what win elections. more here, and worth the read ... http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/opinion/2002185662_reed21.html?syndication=rss

As a former governor, he's proven his abilities as an administrator. He's going to be running a whole political party.
That's going to make a big difference.

2. It's because of Dean that I have hope. |

He is a remarkable public figure, and I believe in his ability to lead us to victory in the next four years. http://www.cafepress.com/liberalissues/507794

I love Dean. I'm so grateful for him. I was a Kerry supporter all the way, but I always respected Dean, and my respect for him is growing all the time.

Like I said on a multi-party message board: I'm going to laugh, all the way to future elections, at all our enemies that underestimated this man.

9. I think the repukes are scared stiff! |
|
Why would they be focusing so much attention on Dean if they weren't afraid of him and what he can do? They know only too well that he is exactly what this party needs to re energize itself and Dean is exactly the man to do it.

10. "Rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up" |
|
I found a message from Dean in my e-mail this morning, the one entitled "Tell your friends about our plan" - and in that note he wrote how so many people had asked for direction on how to organize on the local level. When I donated to the DNC in honor of Dean's ascent, I wrote the same thing: "There are a lot of us out here who'd love to get involved on the local level, who might be interested in running for office, but have no clue as to where to begin. We need some direction and input." I thought I was being all innovative, but was pleasantly surprised to read quotes from others that almost word-for-word echoed mine. I'm feeling really encouraged and positive now!
