Gov. Bredesen's Popularity Evaporates - Especially Among Democrats

Survey USA has the July approval ratings for all 50 governors. As expected, the popularity of Governor Bredesen (D) continues to evaporate. The Tennessee Governor is currently making the largest cuts to health care in the history of the country. Disabled and sick protesters have been camped out in his office suite inside the state Capitol for three weeks now.

The Democratic Governor is liked best by White Republicans.

Bredesen's disapproval rating is highest among Democrats and minorities.

Bredesen is just cleaning up a mess left to him by his predecessor that will take many years to repair. And requires doing some unpopular things.

This is Don Sundquist's mess, not Phil Bredesen's.

6. ditching the state sales tax will solve the problem!!

When will Tennessee follow the example of neighboring states like Virginia and North Carolina?

The national sales tax only increases the price of goods and services for the working class, raising this tax only results in more people buying consumables in other states. Adopting a progressive state income tax would increase business while bringing in needed money for TennCare.

Bill Clinton spent his two terms as President cleaning up the overwhelming mess left by Reagan and Bush. If Clinton had avoided the problems caused by massive military spending and tax cuts, massive deficits would have also been Clinton's mess.

4. I am not happy with him!

I completely understand that the former Gov. totally fucked things up.

However I will never forgive him for the massive and in my opinion way too drastic cuts he's making to TennCare.

My 70 yr old parents are being cut from TennCare as of July 31st. As a result they will have no prescription drug coverage. The only income they have is their Social Security checks. They are filing bankruptcy and they still won't be able to pay for the medicine.

I cannot even begin to tell how traumatic this is for them. I understand Bredesen was dealing with a huge problem regarding TennCare but forcing the elderly in this state to choose between food and medicine is unforgivable!

7. TN Sucks.

Tennessee is in a horrible state of affairs. I live just a few miles from the border, and I honestly believe more people on the border shop and work in Georgia than in Tennessee. They buy their groceries, their products, and until recently even small things like lottery tickets here. Our tax rate is 7% compared to their 9.25%, and with occasional tax-free holidays, it makes it even better. Tennessee has really suffered over the past few years; it could go the way of Mississippi if something serious isn't done soon.
