If Feingold's out, is there ANYBODY for progressives to support in '08? |

Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 05:16 AM by Ken Burch
Hillary's not one of us. Obama's too slippery and inclined to claim the most conservative and gradualist policies possible as "progressive". Vilsack's DLC. Clark is tolerable.
I love Kucinich, but I don't think he can raise the money needed.
Will there be any hope of a progressive candidate seeking the '08 nomination, or are we stuck settling for crumbs and blandness?
Do we just focus on Congressional and local races if it plays out like this?

1. Wait and see who's in. |

Much as I like him, I don't honestly think Feingold was a viable candidate to begin with. He would be a decent running mate, though.
There are all sorts of progressives who might run, but I think a centrist might be acceptable if we think we've got a firm grip on the House and Senate for a while. Just my opinion.

In my state, Governor Brad Henry won reelection against a fairly popular repuke congressman by THIRTY POINTS!!! He plays very well in this bright red state. He may need to take a look at national politics.

6. tired of hearing about "viability" and money |

It is up to us... DK could raise enough via the net... and it is up to us and the peace movement to *make him* viable. All over the world progressives are showing that if as a collective we put enough energy and work hard, it is possible to make a difference, to have a progressive candidate winning even when the establishment already branded the candidate as not viable... Today, in Latin America, we have presidents that were "not viable", and discounted by the media for being "too much to the left", or worst (case of Evo Morales, first native american president in South America).

7. I think the jury's still out on Obama |

If he's running to the left of Hillary in the primaries then I might be inclined to support him.
