Karel last night live from Ireland, on again tonight too!

Karel (KGO) was on last night live from Dublin. It is still in KGO's archives.

I listened to the entire program and the interview he conducted and found it to be pretty accurate as far as how the Irish people view Americans (albeit it was a bit overly optimistic) and also how much Ireland has changed in the last 20 years from being a theocracy to a new Ireland.

I recently traveled to Ireland and stayed for about a month. I was up north in Donegal most of the time and I was really surprised as I hadn't been to Ireland since the mid-1980s. Wow what a shock it was!

As for Donegal, all I can say is :thumbsup: for a great place to visit with not too many tourists. This is likely because about the only way you can get to Donegal (other than car) is via a bus trip that takes ~5 hours.

I suspect they are still available for download from KGO last night. Karel was staying at a castle in Kilkenny last night. He was saying that they all wanted to stay there and did not want to come home.

I've never been to Kilkenny. I really should go there as I have a few of my great great grandmothers/grandfathers that were from Kilkenny and Tipperary. However, I just love Donegal and I'd be hard pressed to not go there again if I manage to make another trip to Ireland. Donegal is where my family originated from and it is a fine place to go. :D

4. you really should go if you can swing it

I went there in 1983 the first time. I returned last year. A total complete *shock* it was for me. They've come a very long way in Ireland and as for the Catholic Church - many have walked away from it due to all of the scandals surrounding the Church. However, overall, Ireland has blossomed!

I saw no more really poor people living there walking around with a long line of children as I did before. I was told that if you have a big family there now, you are most likely very well off and have a nanny for them.

Houses cost as much if not more than they do here. It is a pricey place to live but a beautiful country. They don't allow GMO'd food there nor do they use chemicals on the crops they grow.

I'll be going back again someday. When I don't know, but I will go back again and again, for I have strong roots and many relatives living there. :)

5. btw ....

I was there for almost three weeks. I spent about $3,500 total which included the airfare which was the bulk of the price of the trip (a 6,000+ mile journey it was for me one way). The hotel I stayed in was a nice place in Donegal town and was about $100 a night with a huge breakfast included (I was there with a group so I think I got a very good rate on the hotel). They didn't mind if you took a couple of scones (whatever) back to your room to eat later which worked out well for me as I'm not much of an eater in the morning.

There was a small grocery store nearby that I walked to every day and I went there and bought my food rather than pay a big price at a restaurants. I did not rent a car. I traveled by bus from Dublin to Donegal for a total of 26 euros round trip. Wow, what a deal that was as that is a 5 hour journey by bus from Dublin to Donegal.

The buses there are all nice and clean and no graffiti to be seen on them. :loveya: Ireland! I'll be back again and hopefully soon! :D

6. did you happen to see any herb there?

I smoke a lot, and would want to hook up with herb while I was there. Do you think that is possible? I heard that Ireland was very dry.

8. A couple of my buddies went there for their honeymoon

they ended up having a couple of Guinness as well. My friend Laura had such an anxiety attack of being without herb. They took some with them (prior to 9-11). They went to The Hague, then to Italy.

I would like to get over to Ireland some time. I really just want to get a room near a pub, and hang out in the pub for a week. I am interested in chillin in Ireland!
