From The Belfast Telegraph:
Progressive Unionist Party leader David Ervine has died aged 53.
Mr Ervine had been critically ill after suffering a heart attack at his home on Sunday and later had a brian haemorrhage and a stroke in hospital.
He had been an MLA for East Belfast since 1998 and was a key figure in brokering the loyalist ceasefire of 1994.
His family released a statement to the media confirming his death.

Even though he never resigned from the UVF I did have great respect for him. He moved from being a hard man to one of peace and reconciliation. He often spoke of NI society as being sick and it needed to be changed so that problems could be worked out politically and not with the bomb and gun.
