Forgive my ignorance but what is green beer. I am guessing, from what I have read, that it does not hold much favour with celebrants; but what is it?
And....
Why are people not drinking Guinness on Paddys? That's what I ( and most of Ireland ) plan to be doing?

| 1. Rogue Trooper, green beer is usually Budweiser, Miller MGD, Miller |
|
Lite or Coors (Rocky Mountain goat piss according to my late father) with green food coloring in it.
It's an abomination made up by Americans and perpetuated every Paddy's Day in American bars across the nation.
While Guiness is becoming much more available in your average American bar, most Yanks don't like it. So they swill "green beer" and think that it links them with the "old country".
Try to explain to your average Yank, that there is no such thing as green beer in Ireland and they don't believe you.
Have a great Paddy's Day and who do you think will win the All Ireland Club Football Final? My money's on the Ballina Stephenites.
Slainte!!

but I have a feeling that your money may be well placed with Ballina Stephenites. I have just been looking at trying to get tickets for the game ( I live quite close to Croke Park ). I think I might be a wee bit too late.
Green Beer. :eyes: Still all the more Guinness for those who know better.

| 6. Green Beer is an abomination. |

It's usually the meatheaded types that you see swilling that piss. The American-Irish-for-a-day crowd that is repulsed by a real Irish drink like Guinness.
Personally for me, I drink nothing but Guinness or Tullamore Dew on St. Patrick's Day. Even though I'm American, I still know what's real and what's not.

It was one of those "cute" ideas that somehow took root over here. It is especially popular among those whose only notion of Ireland comes from old animated cartoons or from old movies where Irish men are always police officers!
The unenlightened (of which there are millions) will drink pitchers of it, the rest of us WILL have half a dozen or so Guinness and maybe a drop of Jameson, Bushmills or Tullamore Dew (Powers does not seem available where I live).
Fotunately, there are many Irish in Little Rock, Arkansas, and I will be with them for a GREAT evening out--making fun of the green beer!

| 5. And as if green beer isn't bad enough! |
|
Apparently everything must be green for St Patricks.......I don't know if they still are around, but some of the fast food places make their milk shakes green for that day. Some how I don't see green dairy products as appetizing........:puke:
I do love the Guinness commercials that promote celebrating St Patricks Day as a "real" holiday and making it like Christmas morning, with the guys running downstairs like little kids to get the six-packs, etc.
