So, what's everyone reading? |
|
I'm only following 3 books, right now...Planetary, 100 Bullets, and Sleeper...I've gotten kind of bored of most superhero comics, I'm afraid. These 3 books kick ass, though (especially Planetary and 100 Bullets).

Y: The Last Man, Ex-Machina, Stray Bullets (which does indeed kick ass) and The Losers.
Well, and I just noticed it's mostly Vertigo/Wildstorm stuff.
Having recently discovered that Frank Miller's going to be scripting Batman All-Stars, I'm looking forward to it, even if it looks like it's going to be more along the lines of DKSA than DKR; that is to say, lots of colorful superhero cameos. Though I suppose it'll still be fun reading.
Jim Lee's going to be handling the artwork, and while he's a perfectly competent penciller, I'm just not too crazy about his stuff.

2. I've heard good things about Y: The Last Man. |
|
I'll have to check that out next time I go to my local comic shop. I'll at least pick up one of the trades and see how I like it.
And I'll give Batman All-Stars a look, too, since Frank Miller can pretty much do no wrong (although I wasn't really wild about "Dark Knight Strikes Again"; that was mostly the artwork, though).

4. See, I actually liked the art in DKSA |
|
It was just the over-the-top story and the ham-fisted social commentary that put me off—and the horrible treatment of Robin too, which leads me to believe that Miller hates Robin.
I don't care much for Robin either, nor do I really think Batman should keep 'sidekicks' around, but his appearance (and subsequent death) seemed completely inappropriate, like a slap in the face to everyone that was expecting DKR redux.

3. What am I not reading. |
|
I need to go reduce my pull list. I buy way too many to mention. About 120 bucks a month.

5. Comic books are the bulk of my entertainment budget |
|
I stopped renting movies to compensate, and got rid of internet access at home.
I currently read (in that I pick up new issues when they come out):
Ocean Knights of The Dinner Table Girl Genius Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tales of the TMNT PS 238 X-men Uncanny X-men Astonishing X-men Wolverine The various "The End" x-titles Supreme Power District X The Ultimates BPRD
And I usually pick up the following titles as they are digested into TPB: Exiles Usagi Yojimbo The Authority Planetary Hellboy: Weird Tales
I will splurge sometimes and buy graphic novels. I've got "From Hell" and "Bone" on the wish list. I've caught up with titles like The Authority and Planetary through buying the TPB collections, and now pretty much wait for these to come out as collections before I buy them.
I am also guilty of reading TPBs for free at Barnes & Noble, especially the Star Wars titles and various Batman books (I do own the classic Miller Batman books thought).

Knights of the Dinner Table, Dork Tower, Conan, Waterloo Sunset, Fables, Lucifer, Vimanarama.
Superhero comics generally bore me, too.

10. Dark Knight Returns is a GREAT book. |
|
One of my favourites. That and Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke" are, in my humble opinion, the two finest Batman stories ever.
