It looks pretty darn good.
I didn't think Spiderman 2 was all that great actually, but I'm such a fan of the character I'll be at every movie they make from here on out.

| 3. I liked Spiderman 2 a little more than the first, actually |
|
Maybe it was the improvements to the CGI, or maybe I just liked the villain more. I don't know.
There's something positively iconic about Spidey and Ock fighting while in freefall down the side of that building, and it was nice to see Aunt May in harm's way, just like in the comics.
But the upcoming movie looks very promising. I can't wait!

| 4. Oh, the action sequences were top notch. |
|
And the portrayal of Ock was MUCH better than that of the Goblin (particularly in costume design)
I just thought the Pete/MJ stuff was laid on a little too thick. A couple of those scenes could have been cut down.

| 5. I totally agree with your second sentence... |
|
I thought that was painfully dragged out....
I thought Spidey I and II were the same...I give both a 9. I like the Green Goblin so I got a bias when I say I like part one, just a bit more....:D
And from the look's of the Venom toys, it looks like he isn't going to be totally BUFFED out, so to speak.

I thought the writing in the first Spider-Man was hackneyed and campy. The characters were two-dimensional and the plot was rote and without originality. The second one brought a sense of real humanity to the characters and the dialogue was vastly improved. I watched it again recently and the Peter/MJ stuff wasn't as over-powering as I remembered it being. In fact, I'd say it was just about right. That, and the fact that the fight scene between Spidey and Doc Ock on the train was, perhaps, the finest action sequence I've ever seen in a superhero movie. I rate it at the top of all superhero movies I've ever seen.
Then again, I enjoyed Superman Returns, so different strokes for different folks.

I've read some real mixed reviews.
Apparently there is an embarrassingly bad scene where Peter Parker dances in some night club.
But the action is supposed to be top notch.

| 12. Saw it. Sorry to report that it is largely dreadful. |

I'm gonna keep this spoiler free, but here are my impressions...
In short, It had WAY too much in common with a few of those Batman sequels.
The dialogue was stiff, the story was obvious. It was drama queened out to the point where it lost that Spidey charm of the first two movies. And the jazz club scene? I'm embarrassed for everyone involved.
One bright spot was the performance of Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom. I was a little wary of that casting choice when I heard about it, but he was really, really good. Too bad there wasn't enough of him. Had they been thinking ahead they could have introduced the character in number two and let the relationship between Peter and Eddie grow a little bit more.
This series feels like it's dying a little bit. I mean, it's still a cash cow so I'm sure we'll see at least one and probably two more sequels in this run, although I doubt Raimi and company will be on board. But really, I'd be surprised if we see another good Spider-Man movie until there's a re-boot.
Here's my main problem with the Raimi franchise as a whole. They rushed Peter into adulthood so they could tell the love story. Part of the charm of the Spider-Man mythos is that you have a teenager with teenage problems, who also has super-villains trying to smash him. When you make that character into an adult it changes the whole dynamic. That's why we've seen Brian Michael Bendis's re-boot, Ultimate Spider-Man (where he is and will remain a teenager) become a smash hit while the mainstream continuity (Where Peter is an adult and married to MJ) Spider-Man flounders.
One last point. Spider-Man didn't make a SINGLE funny quip or have any clever banter in this movie. How a guy like Raimi, who supposedly loves the character so much, can make a Spider-Man movie without any banter is beyond me. They just pushed the drama, drama, drama so much and didn't give us any fun.
Disappointing. Very disappointing.
