| How do you go about getting a divorce? |
|
I am headed that way fast, it is pretty much a mutual feeling for my husband and me. We have absolutely no money. No house to fight over. A car that is mine and a car that is his, no argument there. No kids. Do I need a lawyer?
I don't really want to have to go through a divorce but there is really no other choice right now. Our marriage is so far gone and we can't do anything about it because we are living in separate countries at the moment (he's military).

divorce mediation. I think it's less nasty than a regular divorce. You should probably get a lawyer involved just to be safe.

| 2. I used a paperwork "help" service |
|
for my first divorce. I don't remember what it was called; that was nearly 20 years ago. We paid $250, sat in their office and told them what we wanted, they typed it in, filed everything, and we eventually got the decree in our separate mails. We were ending a 10-year marriage, and had 2 children. No house, no material things to argue over.

| 3. My ex and I used the same lawyer for a dissolution rather than |

a divorce (in the state we were in at the time, the difference was that divorce was contested and dissolution was not). the key is to reduce the amount of time the lawyer will spend with you or on your documents. One thing we did to accomplish this was that, without the lawyer, we drew up a list of who was going to get what property (very painful but we didn't fight over it). We then handed it to her.
