I am sitting here and I have just finished a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and let me tell you that it wasn't any good. I don't know if I am drinking too much since my wife left? I only drink when I don't work, and I am not drinking the "hard" stuff. I used to drink a lot in college, but that was in college, I am now 29 and I am facing a failed marriage, and I have to deal with my brother who is getting married and I am supposed to be his best man. My wife won't talk to me at all and I am really broken up about it. I don't think that I have been drinking because of that, but it is starting to creep into my mind that I am drinking a little more that I should. I am just wondering all of you that have gone thru this, is this a bad thing or am I overreacting. I know a co-worker of mine told me when his wife walked out he started to drink a little bit more than he should also. I guess maybe this is a normal reaction.

| 1. Are you suffering physically or otherwise in your life because of it? |

Some people think all drinking is a sign of alcoholism. Some alcoholics pretend they don't have a problem while they drink themselves to death. If you're worried about the amount you're drinking, cut back. If you can't, you have a problem.
Personally, I've reached a point where the hangover is so much worse than the buzz that almost never drink at all anymore.
Hang in there. It gets shittier some times and better at others. Just be honest with yourself about your drinking and you'll probably be OK.
Oh, ask your friends and family, too. They know you better than we do, and they care about you (not that we don't).

As long as you are able to keep on top of it.

I felt like I had an endless pit that I needed to fill with beer. There was just so much emptiness. I've backed off a little bit. I wouldn't get too worried yet. Keep an eye on it.

because her father was drinking a little too much after his first wife died. Now I am not really drinking all that much right now. I guess that I was just trying to quell my exquisite inner pain. She came to our home and saw all the bottles in the recycle bin. I know that is not going to get me anywhere so I am keeping an eye on things.

she's not dealing with what you are. I know how this feels for you. It doesn't sound to me like you're over the edge yet. And don't worry about what impresses her as it likely doesn't matter. Sorry I haven't checked in in a while.
